Four more Tourist Rest Areas (TRA) will be established by the Provincial Government as augmentation facilities to the TRAs already established by the Department of Tourism here in Cebu.
Gov. Gwen Garcia made this pronouncement during the meeting with regional and provincial officials of at least 60 national line agencies at the Capitol on Wednesday, April 26.
“As I had promised your Secretary (Christina Garcia-Frasco), since this should be as always a collaborative effort, if you would put in this many TRAs, then the province will put in the same equal number,” Gov. Garcia told DOT 7 chief of operations Gelena Azis-Dimpas.
“In fact since there are four (TRAs), we have now identified Bogo to be the first, we are committing another four (TRAs) so that with this collaboration, instead of just four, there will be eight TRAs in the entire province, especially since most of our municipalities are tourism destinations,” the governor added.
Last year, Secretary Frasco and Gov. Garcia broke ground on four TRAs in Cebu: one each in Carmen and Medellin in northern Cebu in October; and two more in Carcar City and Moalboal in December.
The TRAs are equipped with a tourist information center, a lounge area, coffee shops, charging station, clean restrooms and shower rooms, and Pasalubong Centers where local artisans can showcase their products.
While the governor already identified Bogo City the Capitol’s first identified location for a Capitol-funded TRA, the three others were not yet divulged by the governor. | Ulrika R. Wagas
