All mayors and Provincial Board members who were present and stayed through the hours-long Provincial Development Council meeting on Thursday, April 27, will receive P2 million each as financial grant from the Capitol.
Gov. Gwen Garcia announced this during the meeting which gathered mayors from the Province’s municipalities and component cities; as well as officials of national line agencies in the province.
A total of 39 mayors, 3 vice mayors who acted as representative to the mayors, Sanggunian Kabataan president, and seven PB members namely Glenn Anthony Soco (6th District), Michael Joseph Villamor (5th District) Andrei Red Duterte (5th District) Ricardo Pepito (PCL), Cesar Baricuatro, (7th District), Minuel Carmela Franco (4th District) and Stanley Caminero (2nd District).
The governor said the financial subsidy should be used for infrastructure projects in their respective municipalities and cities for the mayors, and districts for the board members.
For the PB members, the P2 million aid will be added to their Legislative Assistance Fund, which they could utilize to finance their projects and programs in their respective districts.
This is on top of another P1 million that Gov. Gwen earlier committed to board members who also stayed with her during an inter-agency meeting on Wednesday, April 26.
In every significant mayors’ convention at the Capitol, the governor usually awards infrastructure grants to LGUs whose mayors showed cooperation by not leaving until all matters were taken up.
In this way, not only is the Capitol able to distribute aid to LGUs, but it also ensures that important agenda that need general attention are adequately discussed and swiftly resolved by the body. | Carlo Lorenciana
