Gov. Gwen Garcia met with shipping businessman Paul Rodriguez, CEO of Asian Marine Transport Corp., operator of the Super Shuttle Ferry, Super Shuttle Roro, and Shuttle Fast Ferry vessels.
The governor is seeking to open a new route from Cebu mainland to Camotes Islands to create competition and provide better service for travelers.
The governor and the shipping operator initially raised the plan to open the route from Liloan Port to the town of Poro in Camotes.
Currently, there's only one shipping firm, Jomalia Shipping Corp., that serves the Cebu-Camotes route from Danao City Port. They've long been operating that route without competitors.
If everything goes as planned, Gov. Gwen wants the new route to be faster than the current travel time of Jomalia which currently sits at an average of over two hours. | (Carlo Lorenciana)
