Marielle Geraedts, the ambassador of the Netherlands in the country, paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Gwen Garcia at the Capitol on Wednesday, April 12. The Dutch ambassador pitched to the governor possible areas of cooperation between the Netherlands and the Province of Cebu, such as in agriculture, water system, tourism, and waste-to-energy (WTE).
The governor informed Ambassador Geraedts that Capitol’s negotiations with Dutch company Harvest Waste B.V. in the undertaking of a WTE project bogged down because the company could not satisfactorily answer the governor on what would be done on the harmful waste that the plant would generate.
The ambassador said the Netherlands has already addressed this issue with their own WTE facilities, and that she would be more than happy to help the two parties reach an agreement moving forward. Ambassador Geraedts was accompanied by honorary consul to the Netherlands in Cebu Gordon Alan Joseph in her visit. | IPA / Photos by CC
