Gov. Gwen Garcia, Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas, and Congresswoman Rhea Mae Gullas led the groundbreaking ceremony for three major road improvement projects in Barangay Calidngan on Tuesday, April 15.
The Capitol has allocated P76.4 million budget for the projects which aim to improve mobility and economic activity in the upland barangay of this city in southern Cebu.
“Ato gyong nabati ang pagka-inahan ni Gov. Gwen, kay iya gyong gipangga bisan paman sa kagamay sa among barangay. Karon nakita na gyod ang kalamboan dinhi sa Barangay Calidngan,” Barangay Captain Maricor Alcordo said during the ceremony.
The first project involves the concreting of 0.431 kilometers of Sitio Proper Barangay Road, funded at P4.45 million.
The second, a much larger undertaking, covers 5.164 kilometers connecting Sitio Lunas, Sitio Latab, and Sitio Pit-Os, with a funding of P55.6 million.
The first two road sections are barangay roads. As per Provincial Government standards, these will have road width of 5 meters wide and cement thickness of 6 inches.
The third project spans 0.9367 kilometers from Sitio Sac-Sac to Balungag. This is a Provincial Road. Following the standards by the Capitol, it will have road width of 6.10 meters and cement thickness of 9 inches. This section costs P16.3 million.
Once completed, these road sections will provide better mobility and accessibility to the communities, as well as raise up value of surrounding properties.
All three road sections will also be equipped with solar-powered lampposts mounted on reinforced concrete pedestals, ensuring visibility and enhanced safety for motorists and pedestrians especially at night.
Mayor Barcenas thanked the Capitol for its continued support in extending development to the city’s upland barangays.
Also in attendance were Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco, Vice Mayor Efren Quijano, and members of the city council. | BJR
