SAN REMIGIO, CEBU — Northern Cebu’s next big site for religious pilgrimage and tourism has just received major upgrades, courtesy of the Cebu Provincial Government.
Gov. Gwen Garcia, alongside Mayor Al Pestolante and Congresswoman Janice Salimbangon, led the inauguration of the newly concreted Tacup Proper–Capelinha De Fatima Shrine Road Section in Barangay Lambusan.
The Capitol spent P28.24 million in concreting the 2.5-kilometer road network. It has the standard features for barangay roads adopted by the Capitol: width of 5 meters and cement thickness of 8 inches.
The road section was also fitted with 102 units of solar-powered streetlights, which cost the Capitol some P1.8 million, providing the pathway energy-efficient lighting at night.
The upgraded features for the road provide better and safer access to the Capelinha De Fatima, the new and emerging center of Marian pilgrimage in the Philippines and Asia.
Capelinha or the “little chapel” that has a glass-encased statue of the Our Lady of Fatima inside a huge sanctuary at Tinubdan Hills of the upland barangay of Lambusan – about 100 kilometers from Cebu City.
It is an exact replica of the Shrine of Fatima in Portugal where the Virgin Mary made a series of apparitions to three peasant children in 1917.
Gov. Garcia was also joined by Board Member Glenn Soco and local officials, including Vice Mayor Mariano Martinez and members of the municipal council. | BJR
