The cities and towns of Cebu’s First District have received an accumulated amount of P81.1 million as financial assistance from the Cebu Provincial Government for their various infrastructure projects.
Gov. Gwen Garcia, alongside Congresswoman Rhea Gullas, handed over the checks to the city and municipal officials during the Caravan of Services held at the Lagtang Barangay Gym in Talisay City on March 10. Also in attendance were Board Members Glenn Soco, Raul Bacaltos and Kathleen Daan as well as Ako Bisaya Partylist second nominee Carissa Garcia.
Of the total amount, host Talisay City received P12.8 million, with the office of Mayor Samsam Gullas allotted P5 million for his priority projects; Vice Mayor Choy Aznar’s office received P3 million; and the City Council secured P3.9 million. Additionally, three barangays in the city each received P300,000 to support localized infrastructure projects.
In Minglanilla, a total of P15.2 million was delivered. Mayor Rajiv Enad’s projects was allocated P8 million; while the projects of Vice Mayor Elanito Peña and the Municipal Council received P3 million and P3.3 million, respectively. Three barangays also received P300,000 each.
The City of Naga, for its part, received P10.2 million. The projects of Mayor Val Chiong and Vice Mayor Virgilio Chiong were allotted P3 million each; while the City Council received P3.3 million. Three barangays also received P300,000 each.
San Fernando secured P14.9 million, with Mayor Mytha Canoy’s office receiving P8 million; Vice Mayor Ricci Reluya’s projects allocated P3 million; and the Municipal Council granted P3 million. An additional P300,000 was given to each of three barangays in the town.
For Carcar City, an aid package worth P12.8 million was distributed. The projects of Mayor Patrick Barcenas received P5 million; Vice Mayor Efren Quijano’s was allocated P3 million, and the City Council received P3.9 million. Three barangays were also granted P300,000 each.
Lastly, Sibonga was awarded P15.2 million, with Mayor Dotis Laude’s office receiving P8 million, Vice Mayor Joel Ponce allocated P3 million; and the Municipal Council granted P3.3 million. Three barangays also received P300,000 each.
These funds, intended exclusively for infrastructure development, will be utilized in compliance with the stringent rules of the Commission on Audit to ensure transparency and accountability. This is part of Gov. Gwen’s policy direction of equitably distributing the resources of the Capitol to support the growth of the LGUs on the ground. | BJR
