The TWM 32.0 triathlon in Poro, Camotes Islands was more than just a test of endurance—it was a celebration of community and a boost to local tourism.
Gov. Gwen Garcia, in her speech during the awarding ceremony on Saturday, March 1, emphasized how events like TWM 32.0 help fuel local businesses.
“Dako kaayo mog tabang namo, tungod kay ang turismo nisamot og lambo. Gitabangan ninyo ang ekonomiya dinhi sa Camotes islands,” Gov. Gwen Garcia told the athletes recognizing their role in bringing economic opportunities to the island.
With 425 participants braving through a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike ride, and 10-kilometer run, the event attracted notable competitors, including Tabogon Mayor Francis Salimbangon, Tabuelan Vice Mayor Rex Gerona, and celebrity triathlete Paul Jake Castillo.
Founded by Paulo Garcia, the race has grown into a premier competition that not only challenges athletes but also strengthens Cebu’s position as a sports tourism hub.
“Here, you are not some faceless number in the huge crowd. You have become friends, who have become the TWM family and that spells a world of a difference,” Gov. Garcia added.
The successful hosting of TWM 32.0 in Poro highlights the town’s potential for large-scale sporting events, reinforcing its role in Cebu’s expanding sports tourism industry. | BJR
