Gov. Gwen Garcia welcomed Italian Ambassador to the Philippines Davide Giglio at the Cebu Provincial Capitol on February 20 to discuss potential areas of cooperation between the province and Italy.
Ambassador Giglio was accompanied by Honorary Consul of Italy in Cebu, Francesco Guidicelli.
During the meeting, Gov. Gwen shared with the Ambassador Cebu’s best practices and its growing economy, particularly its successful joint ventures with Spanish firm Acciona Energia. She emphasized the province’s openness to fostering collaborations that would bring economic and cultural benefits to both Cebu and Italy.
“This excites me. We don’t have any. We don’t have a single sisterhood agreement with any Italian [province],” Gov. Gwen said.
The discussion centered on establishing business partnerships and investment opportunities that could boost Cebu’s economic landscape.
“I dont want to involve in your politics but I just want investments and tourism to uplift the lives of the Cebuanos,” the governor added.
“We’ll try to do our part,” Italian Ambassador Davide Giglio replied.
As discussions progress, both parties are optimistic about forging ties that will benefit both Cebu and the Italian business community in Cebu and the Philippines. | BJR
