Gov. Gwen Garcia has called for a more collaborative and coordinated approach among law enforcement agencies to strengthen crime-solving efforts in the province.
“With this collaborative effort, we can go beyond solving crime,” Gov. Gwen told Police Colonel Christopher Bermudez, regional director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG 7), during his visit at the Capitol on February 20.
Gov. Gwen’s call for a stronger police presence and collaboration aligns with her administration’s efforts to ensure peace and order in Cebu, particularly in addressing high-profile crimes and maintaining public safety.
To enhance coordination, the Governor plans to meet with the regional directors of various police units, along with Police Regional Office-7 director Brigadier General Redrico Maranan.
“I will call the RDs together with General Maranan para will have this collaborative, interactive coordinated effort for Cebu,” the Governor said.
Aside from improving coordination, the Governor also suggested for a more strategic deployment of CIDG 7 personnel throughout Cebu, including its island municipalities.
“I would suggest in order for you to be meaningful talaga, that you would distribute yourselves in the entire island of Cebu including the island yung Camotes and Bantayan. Any way, you can always attach to the police stations that are located in these LGUs,” she added.
At present, CIDG 7 has 91 personnel assigned all over Central Visayas, with 24 deployed in PRO 7 in Cebu City and only 14 stationed at the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
CIDG is the primary investigation arm of the Philippine National Police. It monitors, investigates and prosecutes all crimes involving economic sabotage and other crimes of such magnitude and extent as to indicate their commission by highly placed or professional criminal syndicate or organization. | BJR
