Camotes is set to welcome a new landmark as the Cebu Provincial Government breaks ground on the much-anticipated “Hapitanan sa Sugbo” in Brgy. Northern Poblacion, San Francisco town. The project is expected to bring modern amenities and eco-friendly innovations to the area, providing a major boost to local tourism.
The “Hapitanan sa Sugbo” is patterned after the Tourist Rest Area facilities of the Department of Tourism. As of today, there are at least ten Capitol-funded “Hapitanan” facilities all over Cebu at varying stages of project completion and development.
The one here in San Francisco will be built on a 19,062-square-meter lot, with a floor area of 171.10 square meters. The Capitol is spending P6.3 million for the project which will be powered by solar energy, reflecting the provincial government’s commitment to sustainability and green technology.
Once completed, the facility will offer a range of amenities designed to cater to the needs of both locals and tourists. Visitors can expect air-conditioned lounge areas, charging stations, a tourist information center, and a variety of food and retail outlets. A mini-food court will serve local dishes, alongside coffee shops and souvenir shops. Modern shower rooms will also be available for visitors’ comfort.
For just a minimal fee of P10, tourists will have access to the facility’s top-tier comfort rooms, ensuring a clean and pleasant experience. Additionally, bus drivers will be treated to complimentary meals from “Karenderia,” a local eatery funded by the local government unit.
Governor Gwen Garcia, who led the groundbreaking ceremony, was joined by Board Members Glenn Soco, Red Duterte, and Mike Villamor, as well as San Francisco Mayor Alfredo Arquillano Jr., in marking this important milestone for the community.
