In the promises to significantly improve transportation and commerce in Madridejos, Bantayan Island, Governor Gwen Garcia led the ceremonial groundbreaking for the concreting and improvement of the Barangay Pili and Barangay Kaongkod road section. The event took place in the Municipality of Madridejos, February 6, Thursday.
Governor Garcia was joined by Madridejos Mayor Romeo Villaceran, Vice Mayor Vincent Villacrusis, Ako Bisaya Second Nominee Ms. Carissa Garcia, Board Member Glen Soco, and Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu District Collector Atty. Geoffrey De Vera IV.
The project, which has a net length of 3.1927 kilometers, will widen the road to 6.1 meters and apply a 23-centimeter thickness to ensure durability. With a total cost of P50,319,891.89, the roadwork aims to ease the transportation of goods, especially crucial for local residents who depend on the road to bring products like dried and fresh-caught fish to the market.
Mayor Romeo Villaceran expressed his gratitude, saying, “Daghang Salamat, Governor Gwen, ining imong proyekto nga makabenepisyo gyud sa mga residente sa Madridejos,” highlighting the importance of the project for the community.
Governor Garcia, in her speech, shared a heartfelt message: “Ang gugma nga nagagikan kaninyo, ako kanang baslan sa gugma sa akong kasing-kasing,” emphasizing the deep connection and dedication she feels towards the people of Madridejos.
This road improvement project is expected to boost economic activity and significantly benefit the local community, making it easier for residents to transport goods and access markets more efficiently. | JMT
