The graduates of the Cebu Provincial Government’s Sugbo Kahanas program—Seasons 1, 2, and 3—will be given priority for employment in the construction of AboitizPower's Unit 3 Power Plant in Brgy. Bato, Toledo City, which is operated by its subsidiary, Therma Visayas Inc.
Sugbo Kahanas, an initiative launched by the Cebu Provincial Government, aims to provide technical skills training to Cebuanos in various trades and industries, helping them secure stable employment while addressing the demand for skilled labor in the province. The program partners with TESDA and local schools to equip participants with in-demand skills, enhancing their employability in both local and international markets.
This announcement comes after a productive meeting between Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia and AboitizPower executives, including Anton Perdices, the company’s chief operating officer for the distribution group.
During the discussion, AboitizPower shared its plan to hire 1,000 skilled workers for the construction of the new power plant, with a significant portion of these positions expected to be filled by local talent.
Governor Garcia expressed her gratitude towards AboitizPower for prioritizing Cebuano manpower, reinforcing the value of supporting local employment initiatives.
Once completed, Unit 3 of the power plant is expected to have a net capacity of 150 megawatts, with a target completion date set for the second half of 2028. | JMT
