The Regional Maritime Unit in Central Visayas (RMU 7) has a new director, Police Colonel Mario Cristino Lucero, and he told Gov. Gwen Garcia that they would want to be of help in the conduct of the Capitol-led Caravan of Government Services all over Cebu.
Lucero was at the Capitol on January 15 for a courtesy call when he made this commitment before the Governor.
The “Caravan of Government Services”, another of Gov. Gwen’s brainchild program, is designed to bring government services closer to the people. It has already garnered support of various national line agencies as well as the private sector.
This time, Lucero said the RMU 7 will offer the crucial service of processing vessel clearances for vessel and ship owners. This partnership is expected to streamline maritime-related administrative processes, allowing for a faster and easier access to clearances that are vital for operating vessels in the province.
Governor Gwen also took the opportunity to direct the RMU 7 to bolster its efforts in monitoring and sea patrolling, particularly in preventing the illegal activities of smuggling in Cebu’s waters. The Governor emphasized the need for heightened vigilance to safeguard both the economy and security of the province.
RMU 7 is the operational arm of the PNP Maritime Group, the PNP’s support unit mandated to perform all police functions, ensure public safety and internal security over Philippine territorial waters, rivers and coastal areas, including ports and harbors; and sustain the protection of the maritime environment. | JMT
