The Sinulog Festivities are just around the corner, so does the Suroy Suroy Sugbo Northern Escapade.
Cebu Province’s tourism caravan, historically one of the best attended installments of the Suroy-Suroy, will cover 14 municipalities and one component city of Northern Cebu, and is slated right after the Fiesta Señor from January 23 to 25.
On January 3, Governor Gwen Garcia’s first day back in office for the new year, she held a coordination meeting at the Capitol Social Hall with the 15 LGU mayors, including their tourism officers and event organizers, to receive updates and finalize preparations for the Suroy Suroy.
Gov. Garcia emphasized that this year’s edition will offer guests an opportunity to explore the grandeur of the northern part of the island, with a special invitation extended to balikbayans who are here for the holidays and the Sinulog.
The Suroy Suroy Sugbo Northern Escapade is set to highlight the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and hospitality of Cebu’s northern LGUs, namely: Consolacion, Compostela, Carmen, Sogod, Medellin, and Daanbantayan (first day); San Remigio and to the three LGUs of Bantayan Island, namely: Santa Fe, Bantayan, Madridejos (second day); Bogo City and the municipalities of Tabogon, Borbon, Catmon, and Liloan (final day).
Suroy Suroy Sugbo is one of Governor Garcia’s signature programs that has promoted local tourism by showcasing the different LGUs of Cebu through the caravan personally led by the Governor.
It encourages both domestic and international tourists to discover the lesser-known but equally beautiful areas of the island, boosting local economies and promoting cultural exchange.
As appreciation for their efforts on the Suroy Suroy, Gov. Garcia announced a P2 million aid to be coursed through the offices of the LGU mayors, which will be spent solely for infrastructure project and subject to strict COA rules and regulations.
The aid ensures that LGUs will have the facilities needed in accomodating the influx of tourists as each of them get the needed promotion from the Suroy Suroy. | JMT
