Three centenarians hailing from Cebu’s first legislative district were honored by the Cebu Provincial Government for their years of service to the community.
Governor Gwen Garcia personally handed three checks worth P100,000 each, as appreciation, to Lola Profiria Alcorcon and Lola Flora Tanudra Aledon of Carcar City; and Lolo Vicente Adlawan Restauro of Talisay City during the Caravan of Government Services held at the Minglanilla Municipal Complex on December 17.
The three centenarians were all born sometime in November 1924. They said their secret to achieving a long life was the observance of a healthy diet that include staples such as corn, otan Bisaya, and fish — coupled always with the power of prayer.
In addition to the cash grants, the recipients were also presented with adult wheelchairs and ABAG Sugbo QR-coded cards. Such cards entitle them to free medical services as well as medicines in any of the 16 Capitol-run hospitals.
Aside from these, their caretakers are also awarded certificates of entitlement, giving them an assured spot in the Capitol’s Sugbo Kahanas program, which provides free technical and vocational skills training to qualified beneficiaries.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also joined in the assistance program by giving each of them P2,000 in cash assistance as well as family food packs.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) also contributed a pair of slippers and five kilos of rice each; with an additional five kilos of rice courtesy of Ako Bisaya Partylist. | MRM
