Cebu will host the 20th National Convention of Lawyers, which will be held from January 30 to February 1, 2025, at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino.
This was what Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) National President Atty. Antonio Pido and Executive Vice President Atty. Allan Panolong told Gov. Gwen Garcia during their visit at the Capitol on December 16, as they also invited her to grace such occasion.
Around 4,000 lawyers from both the government and private sectors are expected to attend this biennial event that will enable a participant to earn 18 MCLE units as well as comply with one of five attendances to national or regional conventions, for purposes of complying with the requirements of lifetime membership in the IBP.
MCLE, or the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education, is required of members of the IBP to ensure that throughout their career, they keep abreast with law and jurisprudence, maintain the ethics of the profession and enhance the standards of the practice of law.
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, will also grace the opening day of the convention as many of the Justices of the Court will be MCLE lecturers on that day.
Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, who is also a lawyer, is also slated to attend.
Gov. Gwen said she was elated at the IBP’s choice of the venue as such a gathering will certainly benefit businesses in Cebu, adding that the Capitol is ready to support the IBP in ensuring the success of the program. | BJR
