Gov. Gwen Garcia made a commitment to at least 900 barangay captains who attended the Liga ng mga Barangay Cebu Province Year-End Assembly on Nov. 26 in Lapu-Lapu City.
Each of their offices would receive P300,000 aid from the Provincial Government to fund their infrastructure projects in the barangays.
Board Member Celestino “Tining” Martinez III, president of the provincial league, thanked the Governor for her constant support to the barangays, as evidenced by an impressive turnout of 900 out of 1,066 barangay captains in the province.
“Thank you, Governor Gwen, for always supporting the Barangays of the Province of Cebu,” Board Member Martinez said.
Also showing their appreciation were Board Members Glenn Soco, Red Duterte, Mike Villamor, Stanley Caminerio, and Raymond Calderon; as well as Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura, who is also the president of the League of the Municipalities of the Philippines Cebu Chapter.
The event shows the strong partnership between the Capitol and the barangay halls in the entire island.
Governor Gwen asked the barangay captains to prioritize projects that would have lasting impact on the people, as the assistance is intended for the people.
The Governor’s decision reflected the Capitol’s commitment to improving the quality of life in Cebu’s barangays, ensuring that residents have access to vital infrastructure and public amenities.
“Good governance starts with you, Barangay Captains and Barangay Kagawads,” Gov. Garcia said, emphasizing the essential role of local leaders in driving change and fostering development in their communities. | JMT
