Renewable energy is fast becoming the popular choice for the Cebu Provincial Government, as evidenced by yet another string of infrastructure projects that will be run entirely by solar power.
June Ilyn Terado of the Provincial Planning and Development Office reported in a meeting that the Capitol-funded Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in Pinamungajan will be powered by solar energy, as well as nine others of similar facilities all over Cebu.
This is important because the Department of Tourism-inspired TRA will offer an air-conditioned facility for local and foreign travelers alike. It will feature a tourist information center, lounge area, coffee shops, mini-food court, charging stations, clean restrooms, shower rooms, pasalubong centers, and ample parking space.
The meeting was attended by Gov. Gwen Garcia and Pinamungajan Mayor Jessica Baricuatro; and centered on preparations for the facility’s opening on December 3 — the first of ten Capitol-funded TRAs to be completed.
“Kinaunhan ang Pinamungajan. We’re so lucky and blessed kay dako kaayo ning impact dili lang sa Pinamungajan but sa tanan nga mobisita sa south kay nindot kaayo ang facility,” Mayor Jessica told Sugbo News.
The mayor also said that to maximize the use of the facility that sits on a 1,322.2-square-meter area, the LGU is looking to transfer the bus terminal from Brgy. Poblacion to the TRA in Brgy. Pandacan, so that it would effectively function like a bus stop.
Aside from Pinamungajan, the Capitol is also simultaneously building TRAs in nine other LGUs, namely: Santander, Dumanjug, Balamban, Bogo City, Pilar, Tudela, Poro, San Francisco and Madridejos, with budget allocation of least P8 million per TRA unit.
While the facility will be managed by the LGU, its clean restrooms will be operated by Mister Loo Philippines which introduces tech-enabled toilets. | BJR
