Governor Gwen Garcia expressed her hope for more female police officers in the future during her meeting with the newly-appointed Philippine National Police Regional Training Center 7 Police Col. Giovanni Musico.
In their brief discussion at the Capitol on Tuesday, April 19, Governor Garcia became concerned of gender equality at the Philippine National Police (PNP) after learning from PCol. Musico that there are only 5 female students enrolled at the training center, which is a low number compared to their 40 male enrollees.
This push for more women is timely as it is under Gov. Garcia’s leadership, the first lady governor in Cebu, that the province became the number one in the country with record breaking accomplishments.
Thus, the governor stressed that it is about time for women to level the playing field at the police force.
While PCol. Musico discussed the improvements made at the training center, he also took the governor’s concern as basis for further changes at the training facility.
Since the governor assumed office she has been in close partnership with the police force in keeping Cebu a safe province for all Sugbuanons. | Ulrika R. Wagas
