Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Marat Pavlov personally carried an invitation letter for Cebu to yet another conference in St. Petersburg, Russia during his visit to Gov. Gwen Garcia on October 23.
The letter — signed by Dr. Vladimir Moiseyenko, director of the Napalkov Cancer Center in St. Petersburg — invites a delegation from Cebu Province to take part in the “Second Educational Nursing in Oncology Conference” to be held on the third week of November.
Ambassador Pavlov was accompanied by Honorary Consul of Russia Armi Lopez Garcia during his visit at the Capitol.
The invitation followed the successful visit of a delegation of medical professionals from Napalkov Cancer Center, led by Dr. Moiseyenko, to Cebu in August this year for the “Cebu Health Summit”.
During that summit held at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebuano and Russian doctors signed a “pledge of allegiance and commitment” to the newly formed “Sugbo–Russo Health Alliance” aimed to organize a bilateral connection in the sphere of scientific, educational, and innovation activities in medicine, particularly in the field of oncology.
The Russian invitation carries with it an opportunity for the Cebuano delegate to deliver a lecture during the conference as well as on the special cancer session on the BRICs forum.
“I am confident that such event will benefit Russian-Philippines cooperation and strengthen relations between St. Petersburg and Cebu Province, and of course improve the quality of specialized medical care provided to oncological patients in both countries,” the letter read.
In June, Gov. Gwen led a delegation from Cebu to Russia to renew the sisterhood agreement with St. Petersburg region as well as speak at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. | JMT
