Governor Gwen Garcia graced the opening ceremonies of the inaugural “TOPS ArtFest,” set to be the largest arts event in Cebu this year, at the iconic TOPS landmark in Cebu City.
She was joined by Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, former Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino, and his son Enzo Dino, the event’s lead organizer on the night of October 17.
The four-day event, free for all TOPS guests, will showcase the best of Philippine art, featuring 200 participating artists from across the country. It will feature diverse exhibitions, art installations, talks, demonstrations, workshops, and a painting competition.
“It has been said that history defines the people. Culture makes the people unique. But it is art that gives each and every one of us our soul,” Governor Gwen said in her speech.
“We will showcase established galleries and art collectives from around the country — from Cebu’s deep roots in traditional realism to the vibrant contemporary scenes in Bacolod, Dumaguete, and NCR. We’re celebrating diversity across all styles,” said the younger Dino.
He encouraged guests to explore various areas of the artfest located at The Circle of TOPS, from October 17 to 20.
“We want Cebuanos to define what art means to them through interactions with the artwork and the artists behind it,” he added.
TOPS ArtFest also features a limited edition fine print by renowned contemporary artist Ronald Ventura, created specifically for Cebu. Ventura is recognized as a leading figure in Southeast Asia’s contemporary art scene.
During the opening night, the festival unveiled “Lamdag: Apotheosis of Cebu” by Adeste Deguilmo. A highlight of the festival includes a silent auction of a recent oil masterpiece by multi-awarded artist Randalf Dilla. Proceeds will benefit the Cristina Lee-Dino Foundation and SHS-B Batch ‘85 Foundation.
Bidding commenced on Thursday, October 17 at 6 PM and will continue until October 19 at 9 PM. | JMT
