Just minutes before the closing of office hours on the final day of the filing of Certificate of Candidacy, the ruling One Cebu party revealed its candidate for vice governor.
Sixth District Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco formally submitted his COC for vice governor at exactly 4:31 p.m. at the Cebu Provincial Comelec office.
He was accompanied by Governor Gwen Garcia, his family, and members of the provincial board.
“I felt that the governor needs a vice gubernatorial candidate which has supported her program all throughout,” Soco told local media in explaining his decision to run as Gov. Gwen's runningmate, again, for the third time
“We have always started something which has been made unprecedented progress in the entire province of Cebu and I fully support the governor in her programs, advocacies and I felt that she needed a vice governor which has always been there,” he added.
This is not the first time that Soco is running as Gov. Gwen’s running mate. He ran in 2010 but lost to the late Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez. He ran again in 2013 but lost to former vice governor Agnes Magpale.
He is also on his third and final term as member of the Provincial Board representing the 6th District of Mandaue.
For Gov. Gwen, questions on why she chose Soco as her running-mate, she said that her response is the same in 2010 when said “Why not, Glenn Soco?”
Soco is a businessman turned public servant.
Known for his involvement in various infrastructure projects and economic development initiatives, Soco first entered politics in 2010 as a vice gubernatorial candidate. Though his initial run was unsuccessful, he became a board member of Cebu’s 6th district in 2019.
Over the years, he has built a reputation for supporting local businesses and fully supported all the projects and programs of Gov. Gwen’s administration. | BJR
