Gov. Gwen Garcia is running for a third consecutive term (sixth term overall) as Cebu Governor in order to attend to her many “unfinished business” at the Capitol.
This was what she told the media after filing her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Governor at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Cebu Provincial Office on October 8, last day of filing of COCs for the 2025 midterm polls.
“Daghan pa kaayog unfinished business: the transfer of the seat of government sa Balamban. I also have to develop the Camp Lapu-Lapu,” she told the media.
“Padayonon ni nato tanan, even as we are developing our Cebu City properties, not to sell, because I will never, ever dispose of any of our provincial government properties. I am just a steward, but we will develop these to earn more revenues,” she added.
Some of her landmark initiatives involve the Capitol’s successful partnership with Filinvest Land Inc. in the development of Capitol Properties at the Cebu IT Park and surrounding areas, as well the PPP with Acciona Energia in the construction and development of a 150-megawatt solar power plant in Daanbantayan, with extension sites being eyed in Dumanjug and Toledo City.
Gov. Gwen also stressed her commitment to continuing key social amelioration programs, such as Sugbo Negosyo, Sugbo Kahanas, Sugbusog, and Caravan of Services whose primary beneficiaries are the Cebuanos who are most in need.
“Magpadayon sab kog huna-huna unsaon pa nako, unsa pa may akong mahimo nga mapa-angat,” she stated. “Ang priority is how can I uplift the lives of the Cebuanos especially gyud intawn ang katong mga naglisod.”
Gov. Gwen also told the media that under her final term if ever she wins, she wants to put an end to the long-standing 93-1 issue, which affects thousands of informal settlers occupying 51 hectares of Capitol properties in 11 Cebu City barangays.
“I would like also to give, although di man ni sila kabotar nako, apan matagaan sila og final nga kasiguroan kaning mga nagpuyo sa 93-1 nga lots. Nga unta inabagan sa Pag-Ibig (Home Development Mutual Fund), maka-angkon na gyod sila sa ilang luna,” the governor said.
