Gov. Gwen Garcia filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Cebu Governor at the Commission on Elections Cebu Province today, October 8, 2024 — the last day of filing of COCs for the upcoming 2025 midterm polls.
She was accompanied by her son Paolo, her daughter Carissa, along with other family members, close friends, and political allies who showed their support at the COMELEC Cebu Provincial Office at the Legislative Building of the Capitol Compound.
The incumbent governor and chair of the ruling One Cebu Party, Gov. Gwen is seeking reelection for a historic sixth term as Cebu’s chief executive, a feat never been heard of or done before by her predecessors.
Cebu’s first and only Lady Governor first took office as governor in 2004 and competed her first three terms in office in 2013. In 2019, she made a comeback after serving as Congressional representative of Cebu’s third legislative district.
In 2022, she won by a historic fashion, garnering over 1.4 million votes, with a lead margin of over 1.1 million votes over her closest rival. | BJR
