Two centenarians from Cebu’s seventh district received checks worth P100,000 each from the Cebu Provincial Government in recognition of their hard work and immense contribution through the years.
Gov. Gwen Garcia, alongside Congressman Peter John Calderon, personally handed the checks during the Caravan of Government Services at the Dumanjug Municipal Hall on September 28.
Natividad Martinez of Badian and Adriano Manatad Labastida of Ronda, both born in 1924, received their checks from the governor. Lola Natividad was born on August 9, while Lolo Adriano was born on June 19. Both attributed their longevity to a healthy lifestyle.
In addition to the checks, they also received family food packs; P2,000 in cash assistance from DSWD Region 7; ten kilos of rice from the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Ako Bisaya Partylist; as well as vitamins, seedlings, and an Abag Sugbo card.
The Abag Sugbo card provides free access to medical checkups and medications at Capitol-run provincial and district hospitals.
Their guardians were also awarded with certificates of entitlement under the Capitol’s Sugbo Kahanas program, which offers free technical and vocational trainings to its beneficiaries.
The Capitol’s financial assistance to centenarians is driven by Gov. Gwen’s desire to honor their services to their families and communities. | via BJR
