An initial 10 tourist rest areas (TRAs), to be built by the Provincial Government, will have tech-enabled rest rooms.
These rest rooms will be operated by Mister Loo Philippines (MPL), the Capitol’s partner in bringing cleaner and more comfortable toilet services to the Capitol-run Cebu South and North Bus Terminals in Cebu City.
This was discussed during the meeting between Gov. Gwen Garcia and MPL co-founder Dominik Schuler at the Capitol on July 16. It was attended by third district Congressman Pablo John Garcia, MPL Country Manager Sarah Pante, and Provincial Treasurer Atty. Roy Salubre.
During the meeting, Pante presented monthly reports to the governor on the existing tech-enabled toilets in the said bus terminals, which elicited positive feedbacks from travelers who would even flex the clean and comfortable restroom service provider on social media.
MPL will develop, operate, and maintain tech-enabled toilets in Capitol-funded TRAs which will be built in Santander, Pinamungajan, Dumanjug, Balamban, Bogo City, Pilar, Tudela, Poro, San Francisco, and Madridejos.
The Department of Tourism, led by Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, had built Cebu’s first four TRAs located in Carmen and Medellin in the north; and Carcar City and Moalboal in the south. It provides tourists with a cozy lounge area, gift and souvenir shops, a charging station, an information desk, as well as clean comfort rooms.
In appreciation for DOT’s initiative of putting up facilities such as TRAs that would redound to the benefit of foreign and local travelers in Cebu, Gov. Gwen initially pledged for the Capitol to build as many TRAs built by DOT.
However, due to the requests of Cebu mayors, Gov. Gwen has since raised the number to ten. With this continuing partnership with MPL, Capitol-funded TRAs will even be more receptive to the needs of tourists in Cebu by providing them topnotch services.
The tech-enabled toilets will charge a modest fee ranging from P10 for clean and modern facilities; to P20 for premium option that provides airconditioned make-up and breastfeeding area, charging stations, and complimentary water, among others. | BJR
