Gov. Gwen Garcia welcomes 3,145 student-journalists from all over the country to Carcar City, venue of this year’s week-long National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) competition.
The competition gathers the best campus journalists under the Department of Education nationwide in the ultimate test of their print journalism, as well as TV and radio broadcasting skills.
But aside from possessing a degree of mastery in these important fields in journalism and mass media, the Governor, a mass communications graduate herself from UP Diliman, urged them to never lose the integral foundations that journalism teaches them — above all else.
“I hope that as you continue further in life where things will not always be black or white, and there may be gray in-betweens, it is my fervent prayer that you will always uphold the principles and tenets of responsible journalism,” Gov. Garcia said at the Carcar City Sports Center.
The opening ceremony at the Carcar City Sports Center was graced by Vice President and Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte and Sen. Imee Marcos.
Board Members Glenn Soco and Raymond Calderon, as well as Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas were also present at the historic gathering in the southern city of the province.
The NSPC is the top journalism competition in the country, where only the best of the best compete after successfully passing through division and regional levels.
This event serves as a platform for these young journalists to showcase their skills and talents, as well as meet their idols in the profession as well as peers in what could be the future faces and voices in the country's journalism fields. | MAM
