The Cebu Provincial Board commends five barangays in Cebu Province which were declared as “drug cleared” by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) on June 27.
In a resolution penned by Board Member Thadeo Jovito Ouano during the regular session on Monday, July 1, Barangays Libo, Magcagong, and Cantolaroy of Sibonga; and Barangays Carmen and Dumlog of Toledo City have been commended by the provincial legislative body for having been drug-cleared.
They are just 5 of the 118 barangays in the province cleared by the ROCBDC, which is headed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA 7) Director Emerson Margate.
“It is really the goal of Governor Gwen that all barangays of the Province of Cebu to be drug-cleared, because last year during our Provincial Development Council meeting, ni-declare gyod siyag war on drugs,” BM Ouano told Sugbo News.
BM Ouano, who represents the sixth district and the lone district of Mandaue, chairs the PB committee on public safety, peace and order; and dangerous drugs prevention.
The recognition of the five barangays follows the guidelines set by PDEA and the Dangerous Drugs Board. They are contained in ROCBDC Resolution Nos. 0032, 0033, 0034, 0020, and 0021 series of 2024.
Committee members present during the ROCBDC deliberation were Police Lt. Col. Franco Rudolf Z. Oriol, Dr. Jonathan Neil Erasmo of the Department of Health-Central Visayas, Camille Pateres of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and PDEA-7 Assistant Regional Director George Paul Alcovindas.
According to Leia Alcantara, information officer of PDEA-7, the process of validation and verification of drug-cleared and drug-free barangays ensures that the barangays have sustained their anti-illegal drug programs and new drug activities or relapse cases are immediately addressed. | 𝐶𝑖𝑎ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑎 𝐶𝑎𝑛̃𝑒𝑡𝑒, 𝐶𝑁𝑈 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛; 𝑃ℎ𝑜𝑡𝑜𝑠 𝑏𝑦 𝐺𝑤𝑦𝑛𝑒𝑡ℎ 𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒 𝑇𝑎𝑦𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑎𝑐, 𝐶𝑁𝑈 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛
