Gov. Gwen Garcia received into the Capitol the delegation from Jeju Special Self-Governing Province of South Korea, led by Gov. Oh Young-hun on June 14.
During their dialogue at the Gallery, both parties felt strongly about the possibilities of opening a direct flight route between the island-provinces as well as establish business partnerships between the chambers of both islands.
Gov. Garcia said the two island-provinces, known in their respective countries as top tourism drawers, greatly complement each other. While Cebu is a top wedding destination in Asia, Jeju is also South Korea’s top honeymoon destination, Gov. Garcia noted.
“This is where we can compliment each other. When a man and a woman comes together in love, we can be their wedding and their honeymoon destinations,” the governor added.
Moreover, Gov. Garcia assured that the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), on which she sits as a member of the Board of Directors, can make the proposed direct route happen on Cebu’s end.
Aside from government officials, the Jeju delegation is also composed of officers of Jeju Tourism Association as well as the Jeju Business Agency.
During the dialogue, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, through Melanie Ng, expressed their desire to sign business-to-business agreements with Jeju’s business community.
The governor was joined in the dialogue by the members of the Provincial Board; DOT Usec. Shahlimar Tamano and Usec. Ferdinand Jumapao, members of the consular corps, and Cebu’s business leaders. | IPA
