Gov. Gwen Garcia has reminded all district engineers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cebu to furnish the Provincial Board a copy of the specifications of their 2024 projects not later than June 18.
This reminder, discussed in a meeting on June 11 at the Capitol, is crucial for the projects to be reviewed during the PB’s regular session on June 24.
Gov. Garcia reminded the district engineers and DPWH 7 assistant regional director Danilo Villa Jr. of PB Ordinance No. 2023-02, which requires national government agencies and government-owned and -controlled corporations to consult, coordinate, and obtain the approval of the Capitol before implementing any programs or projects in Cebu.
She stressed that even though these projects have been approved by the provincial and regional development councils, the engineering districts still need to submit the necessary documents to the PB’s Committee on Infrastructure for compliance with the provincial ordinance.
“Ato ning himuon as a matter of procedure,” Gov. Garcia said.
Fifth district Board Member Red Duterte, who chairs the PB’s Committee on Infrastructure, emphasized the importance of this deadline as only the fifth and sixth engineering districts have submitted documents of their 2024 projects to the committee.
Gov. Gwen has also called for coordination as she noted that the third engineering district is currently working on solar lighting along the Transcentral Highway in Balamban, where the Province has also plans of implementing the same.
She also called out the second engineering district for destroying good concrete roads in Argao town and reminded them of their commitment to opt for asphalt overlay when total cementing is not needed, to avoid unnecessary destruction of state-funded infrastructure and maximize their usage instead. | BJR
