The award-winning Rosquillos Festival of Liloan received subsidies worth a total of P6.4 million from the Capitol, Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, and Deputy Speaker and fifth district Congressman Duke Frasco.
Of the amount, P4.2 million came from the Capitol. Fifth district Board Member Red Duterte, on behalf of Gov. Gwen Garcia, announced that the town will receive P2 million to help defray its socio-cultural expenses.
Additionally, each of the 11 contingents from clustered barangays will receive P200,000 each in financial assistance.
Secretary Frasco added another P1.1 million for the 11 contingents who will get an extra P100,000 each.
Deputy Speaker Frasco matched the Secretary’s aid at P1.1 million for the contingents, who now have secured at least P400,000 in subsidies each.
The Rosquillos Festival, celebrated every fourth Saturday of May, honors its patron saint, San Fernando El Rey.
It also showcases the local delicacy known as “Rosquillos,” derived from the Spanish word “rosca,” meaning ring. These circular cookies with flower-like edges were first baked in 1907 by Margarita “Titay” Frasco using her clay oven.
Also present during the event were Mayor Aljew Frasco, fifth district Board Member Mike Villamor, Liloan natives: DOT Undersecretary Kokoy Jumapao, DSWD Assistant Regional Director Johnny Cantero, and Cebu Port Authority General Manager Kit Commendador. | BJR
