Moalboal’s award-winning Kagasangan Festival made a grand return on the evening of May 14 after six years of absence, showcasing an impressive display of artistry and creativity of Moalboalanon youth right in front of the municipal hall grounds.
Gov. Gwen Garcia, who was the guest of honor, was clearly impressed by the artistic representations of Moalboal’s corals and underwater reef formations as well as the dedication of the dancers to their craft.
“One thing was proven tonight: dinhi sa Moalboal, there’s an abundance of talent and creativity,” Gov. Garcia said in her speech.
The governor said the Capitol has allocated P9.5 million as subsidy for the town’s successful staging of the Kagasangan Festival which was participated by nine clustered contingents.
Of the amount, P5 million shall be allocated for the town’s socio-cultural activities, while each of the nine participating contingents will receive a P500,000 in subsidy, as Gov. Gwen matched the initial P500,000 subsidy given by the municipality.
Mayor Inocentes Cabaron expressed his gratitude to Gov. Gwen for her constant support to the development and flourishing of local culture as well as the overall development of the youth.
Joining Mayor Cabaron were seventh district Board Members Cesar Baricuatro and Raymond Calderon; as well as Vice Mayor Paz Rozgoni and Samboan Mayor Emerito Calderon Jr.
The Kagasangan Festival comes from the word “gasang” or corals in Cebuano. The festival is held annually on May 16, celebrating the town’s rich aquatic resources and renowned diving spots that boasts of world class coral formation. It also honors San Juan Nepumuceno, the town’s patron saint. | BJR
