To ease traffic congestion in Mandaue City’s UN Avenue and DM Cortes Street, a stricter implementation of truck ban is being eyed.
This is because Gov. Gwen Garcia observed that trailer trucks traversing the area contribute to daytime traffic congestion as they no longer adhere to the truck ban.
These big trucks are only allowed to ply along the area from 9 pm to 5 am.
The governor’s comments were made in a meeting at the Capitol attended by key officials from Mandaue City, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), and lot owners near UN Ave. and DM Cortes Street on May 3.
The meeting also came to an understanding that trailer trucks from Mandaue City shall be restricted from passing along the roundabout that was installed at the foot of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.
Instead, they shall be redirected instead to an alternative route along Butuanon River towards Cansaga Bridge in Consolacion.
The landowners in the area have also generously agreed to donate their properties, each at least 200 square meters, to facilitate the expansion of the roundabout. Telecommunications and utility companies have also committed to relocating their posts and structures within the affected zone. | BJR
