The contractor of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines has assured Gov. Gwen Garcia that the needed work to fix a punctured cable line of the NGCP will be done in the fastest possible way.
David Li, general manager of Hentong International Business Group, told Gov. Gwen in a meeting on Friday that at least two engineers from their sister company in China, Hengtong Optic-Electric Co. Ltd., are coming to Cebu next week for the needed repairs.
Gov. Gwen said her office will coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs to hasten the visa processing of the two Chinese engineers so that repair works could commence immediately.
Li told 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐛𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬that they could finish the needed repair works on the punctured cable line in just a week’s time.
On April 29, an excavation work conducted by Visayan Electric Company (VECO) near Wilcon Depot along UN Avenue in Mandaue City resulted in the puncturing of NGCP’s power cable Line 2 which supplies power to Mactan Island with a capacity of 180 megawatts.
The damage resulted in two brief power outages in Mactan Island, affecting Lapu-Lapu City and the Municipality of Cordova.
A private power plant, East Asia Power Plant, can pick up the load and ensure uninterrupted power supply for Mactan Island in the event a power shortage, the NGCP had told Gov. Gwen in a previous meeting at the Capitol on the same issue.
VECO President Engr. Raul Lucero, who was present during the meeting, said the electric utility firm is on top of the situation and assumes responsibility for the repair works to be done in the fastest way to avoid inconveniencing the public. | CL
