Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia announces that there will still be Pasigarbo sa Sugbo Festival of Festivals this year.
Gov. Garcia made the announcement during her speech at the Sugat Kabanhawan Festival Showdown in Minglanilla Sunday evening, March 31.
“Kini tingali ang labing tukma nga higayon nga atong dunggon ang singgit sa katawhan, ang hangyo sa atong mga kabataan, ug ang naghatag og garbo sa matag Sugbuanon. Karong tuiga, pangandam, champion (Minglanilla), kay mobalik ang Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2024!” Gov. Garcia said.
To recall, Minglanilla’s Sugat-Kabanhawan emerged as Champion of the Pasigarbo 2023. With the governor’s announcement, it is given a chance to defend its crown from at least 49 vying LGUs.
Meantime, the governor has released financial assistance worth P3 million for the municipality during the event.
Of the amount, P1.5 million has been allocated for the municipal government headed by Mayor Rajiv Enad. It shall be spent to help defray expenses of the festival showcase.
Another P1.5 million is divided evenly among the five participating contingents, or at P300,000 each group, as a reward for their excellent performances.
“Sa pinakauna nga higayon nga gilunsad ang Sugat Kabanhawan Festival, I was with you dinhi sa Minglanilla,” Gov. Garcia said in her speech.
“Daghan na ang mga katuigan ang nangagi. But through the years, I have seen the evolution, the leveling up of Sugat Kabanhawan Festival,” the governor added.

Sugat Kabanhawan Festival is last year’s Pasigarbo sa Sugbo Grand Champion. Its dancers also joined Gov. Garcia in her Sinulog dance offering at the Cebu City Sports Center in January this year.
Minglanilla’s festival showcase is a jubilant depiction of Jesus’ emotional meeting with her Mother, presumed to be the first person she appeared to after resurrecting from the dead.
The festival symbolizes the triumphant victory of light over darkness, embodying themes of hope, renewal, and salvation.
Throughout the festival, colorful processions, lively performances, and religious ceremonies take center stage, uniting communities in joyous revelry and spiritual reflection.
