The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has committed to facilitate the transmission of power that will be generated by the 150-megawatt solar power plant to be built by the Capitol’s private partners in Brgy. Talisay, Daanbantayan town.
“We will collaborate closely. The sooner they finish, the sooner it benefits your business. They will integrate it into your grid,” Gov. Gwen Garcia told NGCP officials present during a meeting at the Capitol on March 22.
The governor was referring to the Consortium Acciona Energía Global and Freya Renewables Inc. which signed a 25-year concession agreement with the Capitol for the development, operation, and maintenance of a 150-MW solar power plant in Daanbantayan last March 16.
Present during the meeting were Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura, Medellin Mayor Joven Mondigo, and Capitol partners Ignacio Domecq of Acciona and Fermin Alvarez of Freya.
NGCP officials, for their part, were led by vice presidents Reynaldo Abadilla and Cesar Sanchez; as well as Rico Vega (chief technical officer and head of planning and engineering), Dalmacio Ruel Tobias (operations manager); and Arnaldo Claudio (regional projects construction manager).
NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s state-owned power grid, an interconnected system that transmits gigawatts of power at thousands of volts from where it is made to where it is needed.
Merely one kilometer away from the identified area of the solar power plant lies the NGCP substation designated to receive the substantial power output from this Capitol-led venture.
Furthermore, NGCP has provided the Consortium with a complimentary “System Impact Study” (SIS) to help in assessing the power grid’s capacity to integrate a new generator, pinpointing necessary enhancements like additional transmission lines, transformers, or substations.
NGCP will also secure the Department of Energy’s endorsement for the SIS.
Upon securing all requisite documentation, Acciona Energía and Freya Renewables are poised to commence the development of the power plant.
