The Capitol has established at least five Hemodialysis Centers in strategic locations in Cebu so that dialysis patients need not travel all the way to Cebu City for their regular treatment.
While this is certainly good news, an official of the Department of Health cautioned that prevention is still much better than cure.
“Ang end-stage renal disease dili unta kana angay nga mahitabo kon maayo ang atong edukasyon parte sa maayong pagkaon, maayong panglawas, ug atong mga practices — because renal problem is primarily a lifestyle problem,” Dr. Jaime Bernadas said during the inauguration of the Capitol-run dialysis center in Bantayan last Wednesday, March 20.
Dr. Bernadas is the undersecretary of the Department of Health and concurrent director of DOH Central Visayas.
Gov. Gwen, in partnership with Medtronix Medical Supplies and Equipment, has successfully established these Dialysis Centers in the Cebu Provincial Hospitals in Balamban, and the cities of Danao and Carcar; as well in Capitol-run district hospitals in Bantayan and San Francisco in Camotes.
All in all, they boast of a combined 60 dialysis machines, with more to be placed at CPH Balamaban and another dialysis center to be put up at CPH Bogo City. | IPA
