The chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Visayas Command (AFP VisCom), Lieutenant General Benedict Arevalo, visited Gov. Gwen Garcia in her office on Tuesday, March 19, for his exit call.
Lt. Gen. Arevalo, who spent 34 years in military service, including two years of service here in Central Visayas, is set to retire from active duty on March 21.
During his tenure, VisCom cooperated with the Cebu Provincial Government’s bid to recover the entirety of the 80 hectares of its property composed of 47 parcels of land that is occupied by VisCom in Brgy. Apas, Cebu City.
The parties have come to an agreement that the Province will facilitate the relocation of VisCom in another area as well as building a functional replica of their old facilities.
This will enable the Capitol to maximize the earning potentials of these lots located near the Cebu IT Park by developing them into income-generating ventures in partnership with the private sector.
“I have to thank you. You have really helped us,” Gov. Gwen told Lt. Gen. Arevalo as she presented tokens of gratitude from the Capitol, including Cebuano products and a plaque of appreciation embossed with the general’s portrait.
Arevalo, in return, gave Gov. Gwen a challenge coin, a military token given to someone who demonstrated exceptional service. | Babie Jane Revecoy
