SAN FRANCISCO, CEBU -- Governor Gwen Garcia attended the Soli-Soli Festival in San Francisco, in the Camotes Group of Islands where she joined in the town’s festivity in honor of St. Joseph the Worker on Sunday, March 17.
She was so moved by the grandeur, artistry, innovation, and showmanship of the five competing contingents that she pledged financial subsidies worth P3.7 million for the whole celebration.
“This is the biggest, grandest, most amazing Soli-Soli Festival ever,” the governor emphasized during her speech at the San Francisco Central School.
Of the amount, P150,000 is allocated for each of the five contingents, while a total of P3 million has been given to the local government unit, headed by Mayor Alfredo Arquillano Jr., as assistance for their celebration.
The governor expressed pride in the “world class” performance of student-dancers; as well as reveal the good news that San Francisco has been upgraded as a first class municipality by the Bureau of Local Government Finance of the Department of Finance.
She also announced during the festivity that the next Suroy-Suroy Sugbo will be held in Camotes on May 11-12 with the new tagline, “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Enchanting One Camotes Island,” as the four municipalities that comprise Camotes have willfully aligned themselves with the vision and direction of the Provincial Government. | Jude Torres
