The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) approved on third and final reading an ordinance establishing Sugbo Segurado, an accident and life insurance benefit to all qualified provincial officials and regular employees, job-order and contractual workers, co-terminus workers of the Provincial Government of Cebu.
Provincial officials include the governor, vice governor, and PB members.
The approved ordinance is authored by PB Member Raymond Joseph Calderon and co-authored by PB Members Jonkie Ouano and Stanley Caminero.
The insurance would also cover mayors, vice mayors, and councilors of the municipalities and component cities of the Province of Cebu, all qualified barangay officials, appointed and volunteer barangay workers, all teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Federation presidents of the public schools in the Province of Cebu, and canyoneering guides in Badian and Alegria.
A Sugbo Segurado Committee will be created for the purpose of the implementation of the ordinance, particularly in prescribing and promulgating the implementing rules and regulations (IRR), and the processing of the claims for the assistance to be granted.
The committee will be chaired by the head of the Provincial Health Office and two members, which will be composed of the heads of the Provincial Human Resource Management Office and Provincial Treasurer’s Office.
An insurance card will be issued to all covered persons under the Sugbo Segurado program.
The ordinance, upon its publication in two newspapers of local circulation shall take effect retroactively in the month of February 2024.
An initial amount of P10 million will be allocated for the ordinance from the budget of the Province, and may be replenished when the need arises. | JTG
