It was a Sunday full of energy for Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia as she leads the opening ceremony of the 2024 Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival in the City of Naga on the evening of March 3.
Governor Gwen levels up the enthusiasm of at least 14,000 participating student-athletes including teachers and delegates from the 44 municipalities of the Province of Cebu during the opening salvo as she took the lead in lighting the torch to signify the official opening of the weeklong sporting event.
There will be 24 sports categories and seven cultural activities that shall be competed upon by around 9,000 elementary and high school student-athletes in the provincial meet.
“Accept victory with humility. If you lose, accept it graciously,” Gov. Gwen told the student-athletes during her speech.
Governor Gwen also emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and respect in the athletes’ pursuit for excellence.
The sporting event will take place in four venues, namely: the City of Naga, City of Carcar, Municipality of San Fernando and Municipality of Minglanilla.
The Provincial School Board, headed by Cebu Governor Gwen, also allocated P3 million as subsidy for the provincial meet whose winning athletes shall represent the Province of Cebu in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA). | Jude Torres
