Cebu will once again take the spotlight as it is slated to host the International Civil Aviation Organization Conference (ICAO) from October 14 to 18 this year.
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) director general Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo told Gov. Gwen Garcia in a courtesy visit at the Capitol on Tuesday, February 13, that the international event will gather in Cebu aviation director-generals from 39 countries and 8 Pacific States that cover the whole Asia-Pacific region.
ICAO is a United Nations agency which helps countries to cooperate together and share their skies to their mutual benefit, enabling countries to diplomatically and technically realize a uniquely rapid and dependable network of global air mobility.
The event is an avenue for discussions and the sharing of best practices in the field of aviation, especially in aviation safety, advancement, airspace, and technology, Capt. Tamayo said.
This is the first time the conference will be held in Cebu, home of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the Best Airport in Asia under the 5 million-passenger category.
Gov. Gwen and Capt. Tamayo sit as members of the board of directors of the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority, the policy-making body of the MCIA.
Also joining in the meeting were MCIAA general manager Julius Neri as well as CAAP officials Ricardo Banayat, Fe Bergara Atty. Jinky Ang, and Atty. Edeliza Iruguin. | Mary Ann Malaya
