Gov. Gwen Garcia’s plan of bulk cement procurement is moving in the right direction as cement firms officially gave their price proposal to the Provincial Government.
In a follow-up meeting with Gov. Gwen on February 12, the four cement manufacturers in Cebu, represented by their officials, handed their proposals to the governor for review.
The company with the lowest price for their cement would most likely be chosen by the Capitol as cement supplier of its multi-billion-peso infrastructure projects.
Under this economic enterprise, the Capitol is set to earn revenue by directly buying cement in bulk and selling them with a small profit margin to the contractors.
The governor said this will be a “win-win situation” both for cement firms and the Provincial Government, as the Capitol is expected to save sums of money on cement purchases; while cement manufacturers would score big especially that the Capitol is spending over P12 billion for infrastructure development this year alone.
Contractors will be using QR-coded cards in getting their cement requirements from the Capitol for easier transaction, a technology which has been adopted by the Capitol in major programs such as Sugbo Negosyo and Dasig Sugbo transactions. | Carlo Lorenciana
