The Metro-Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB), chaired by Gov. Gwen Garcia, now has supervision of the Cansaga Bay Bridge and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
This was the “collective decision” of the members of MCBMB during a meeting called by Gov. Gwen Garcia at the Capitol Gallery today, January 9.
The meeting was attended by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ahong, and Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan; as well as LTO 7 director Glen Galario, LTFRB 7 director Eduardo Montealto, and Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. president and GM Allan Alfon Jr., among various other stakeholders.
MCBMB now has jurisdiction over four bridges, including the original two which are Sergio Osmeña Bridge (known as the Cebu’s First Bridge) and Marcelo Fernan Bridge (known as the Cebu’s Second Bridge).
As such, the Cansaga Bridge and CCLEX will be part of the on-going development of the bridges under MCBMB, such as the putting up of high definition CCTV cameras and solar lights to ensure safety and security of motorists and commuters passing on the bridges.
According to Executive Order 181 signed by former president Joseph Estrada, the board’s main functions are to review and approve policies, plans, projects, rules and regulation necessary for the development, maintenance and use of the Mactan-Cebu bridges.
The board will also coordinate and ensure the effective implementation of the said policies, plans, projects, rules and regulations by the concerned agencies.
MCBMB is also given the power to generate and administer funds and other resources needed for the operations of the Board, its technical working groups and the support staff.
It also creates operating units composed of personnel from different agencies and hired personnel necessary to support and carry out the activities of the Board and perform other related functions to be assigned by the Regional Development Council. | Jude Torres
