They may be “islanders”, but members of the Santa Fe Grassroots Team are no pushover, showing their mettle at the final round of the Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup or GUV CUP where they emerged as champions.
Santa Fe scored two straight sets over the formidable Carcar City Team (27-25 and 25-19) at Talisay City Sports Complex today, January 7, sealing their victory at the 11th season of the GUV CUP.
Gov. Gwen was in attendance, happily cheering for whoever scored in the game, prompting the kids to give their best.
Santa Fe opened the sets badly, but somehow they managed to recover.
The team’s open spiker, 12-year-old Aiser Paciño, did a good job of sparking his team’s resurgence in the game.
Paciño told Sugbo News that they really had a hard time during the first minutes of the game but were able to discover winning plays as the game progressed.
“Nindot among duwa kay nagtinabangay mi sulod sa korte. Gatan-aw og hain dapit ang way tawo ug way depensa aron didto makatugpa ang bola,” Paciño said.
Paciño scored five points with two service aces during the game. | Babie Jane Revecoy
