Gov. Gwen Garcia has clarified that she was not the one who barred winning contingents of the Sinulog sa Lalawigan from joining Cebu City’s grand showdown of the Sinulog 2024 at the South Road Properties.
The governor was reacting to a news item that circulated online, claiming that it was the governor's order that prohibited winning LGUs from gracing the Sinulog stage at the SRP.
Gov. Garcia said the decision was not hers, but was made by the mayors and choreographers of 16 competing LGUs of the Sinulog sa Lalawigan because the SRP venue is still not safe and poses many inconveniences to delegates of Cebu Province, majority of whom are school children.
The Governor added that the Cebu Provincial Government is not competing with the Cebu City Government in the staging of the Sinulog sa Lalawigan. On the contrary, she said, the Capitol is even extending a helping hand in renovating the Abellana Grand Stand and in allocating funds for the Sinulog prizes.
Gov. Gwen pointed out that what the Capitol is doing is in solidarity and unity with the City Hall in ensuring the success of the Sinulog, Cebu’s annual offering of love to the miraculous Snr. Sto. Niño de Cebu.
