At least 20 barangay health worker (BHW) retirees from Cebu’s seven legislative districts each receive P10,000 as “Eldery Pabaon” from the Provincial Government.
The 20 are among the 200 BHW retirees who are receiving the retirement grant from the Capitol this year. Board Member Doc Stanley Caminero, provincial health officer Dr. Rannie Gravador, and Capitol consultant Dr. Christina Giango facilitated the distribution.
The retiree beneficiaries, who are aged 65 years and above, have served as BHWs between 15 to 35 years.
During a ceremonial distribution at the Capitol Social Hall on Wednesday, December13, BHWs present were also given Christmas gift packs, while several of them won various raffle prizes, including appliances.
In a commendable initiative to recognize and support the dedicated service of BHWs, Gov. Gwen launched the program in 2011 during her third term. This groundbreaking program aims to provide a retirement financial grant to Cebu’s unsung heroes who have tirelessly served their communities.
BWs play a crucial role in community development, often working in challenging conditions with limited resources.
Gov. Gwen, recognizing the invaluable contributions of these individuals, started this financial grant program to ease their transition into retirement.
But more than just a financial gesture, the program symbolizes the Provincial Government’s recognition of the indispensable role played by BHWs. By offering this retirement grant, Gov. Gwen aims to ensure that these dedicated individuals can enjoy a well-deserved break after years of serving their communities. | Carlo Lorenciana
