Cebu City Acting Mayor Raymond Garcia believes it is “more logical and more practical” to hold the Sinulog Grand Parade and Showdown Competition at Cebu City Sports Center (or formerly Abellana Sports Complex) than in South Road Properties (SRP).
After inspecting the situation in SRP today, the acting mayor saw that the area is not yet prepared. Although he said he recognizes the efforts of Engr. Pericles Dakay, the contractor in charge of putting together the venue, but Garcia has reservations that there would not be enough time to finish the job.
“I went to SRP today to inspect the venue and I saw nga murag lisod jud. Abellana is the more logical and practical choice,” the acting mayor told Sugbo News.
In a separate interview with KTV, the acting mayor said, “this is based on what I have seen now, ato gitandi ang duha ka area. I don’t want to be disrespectful ni Mayor Mike kay kauban baya gyud mi ni Mayor Mike ug gusto gyud ko nga executive and legislative will have the same direction gyud, whatever it is, whatever we have to take basta ang atoang direction is for the success gyud of the Sinulog.”
The acting mayor inspected SRP today following Governor Gwen Garcia's statement that raised doubts whether the venue will be finished in time for the big event which will be held six weeks from now.
The governor said she would give her all-out support for next year’s Sinulog if this will be held at CCSC where it is safer for dancers from the different local government units under her jurisdiction in Cebu Province, especially the children participants.
The governor also believes that the true spirit of the Sinulog fiesta is for it to be celebrated in the city by tradition and not on the outskirts of the city. | PIO
