A private individual is facing environmental liabilities after he was found building a perimeter fence and concrete slabs for his jet ski along the white sand shoreline in San Remigio, northern Cebu.
The individual, identified as Sean Yu, allegedly bought a beachfront property in Brgy. Anapog, of the said town, and built a 125-meter perimeter fence and concrete docking blocks that jutted out into the sea.
For one, Yu, is clearly violating the 20-meter easement zone according to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office chief Rodel Bontuyan during the Capitol’s weekly department heads’ meeting on Monday, December 4.
Marciano Grejaldo, assistant protected area superintendent of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Tañon Strait Protected Seascape Office, told Sugbo News in a telephone interview, that the structures are in clear violation of the Water Code and other easement rule and regulations.
“Ang kaning docking blocks para unta ni sa iyang jet ski aron kon mogamit siya, lahos na didto’s dagat,” he added.
Grejaldo said Yu failed to comply with the necessary permits which include fencing permit and a Special Use Agreement in Protected Ares (SAPA) permit, compelling them to issue a Notice of Violation to Yu.
Gov. Gwen Garcia does not take lightly environmental violations such as this, especially that the shoreline of San Remigio is a tourist attraction for the town.
To recall, the Capitol has been appropriately dealing with environmental issues around the province, such as the uneven distribution of sand in Santa Fe and Lambug Beach in Badian; as well as the environmental hazards in the canyoneering adventures also in Badian. | Babie Jane Revecoy
